Along with showing good manners, being considerate of people's feelings, dictionary.com's definition of the word respect is: "To show regard or consideration for; to respect someone's rights. To refrain from intruding upon or interfering with."
Physically hurting someone isn't respectful. Do you like being hit? Then why are you hitting others? Do you like people calling you names or poking fun at you? Then why are you doing it to others? Children who bully do grow up to be adults who bully. Their parents are probably bullies. Bullies will yell the loudest and longest about how unfair they are being treated while assaulting others verbally and/or physically.
Anyone living in the city in a house or an apartment needs to be respectful of their neighbors. Whether you are renting a room or the entire house or apartment, you should make sure that anything you do cannot be heard outside your home. Blaring music, yelling, screaming, excessively barking dogs and the like do not make for good neighbor relationships. People like to sleep at night for some odd reason and a neighbor who has loud parties until the early hours of the morning almost every night of the week isn't being respectful. So what is a person to do? You can move to where your nearest neighbor is five miles away. Don't have the money to move? Retaliation isn't your best friend in this instance although that may come to mind. The police are your next best bet.
Look at the people who are caught up in who is running for President of the United States. They are unfriending people or ignoring them if their friends don't follow their political agenda. They spout off nasty comments about the candidates and if you don't chime in - watch out! What happened to the respect that people have a right to their own opinion?
I do believe people need to be informed about the different candidates running for any office to make an informed decision about who they are going to vote for. I don't believe in putting someone in office in regards to their gender or race.
I do respect people for their opinion and I want to receive respect in return if I don't partake in their opinion or discussion about any topic. Do you?
It is disrespectful to keep going on and on about a subject when someone has clearly stated they aren't interested in hearing about your topic of interest. For example: Taxi drivers are good at conversation to keep their passengers who like to talk comfortable. But a cab driver who keeps going on and on about a detailed horrid experience after being told, by the passenger they don't wish to hear about it, is disrespectful. This goes for anyone who follows this line of conversation in their daily lives.
Let's all be respectful of other people in the way we dress, talk and act. Let's get back to basic values and make this world a happier place.
