The scam calls are interesting.
One said they were from National Disability and they noticed that I had inquired about my disability benefits. Really? If I would have said anything at this point, other than put me on your Do Not Call List, the party would have received personal information from me. I could have said no, yes or ...... - then they would have gleaned more about me. When I first told the man to put me on their Do Not Call List, he kept talking. I asked him, "What did I say?" He said, "Put me on your Do Not Call List". I will give him credit for listening. I thanked him and hung up.
The next call is interesting - it was from Bolivia. Yes, Bolivia! I could hardly hear them but they did have my name. I hung up.
Another call came from somewhere in the United States. I let it go into voicemail. When I listened to the message, I called the number back to opt out. The person had my name as he answered, "Hello, Gloria". When I asked him to put me on their Do Not - he hung up at this point.
I have been receiving a message that my delivery business has been flagged. I don't have a delivery business. The person who had this number before me SEVEN years ago did. I have had this number for SIX years and it's only this year that I'm now getting a lot of calls for this man. It's interesting about this automated message. I can opt out on one phone number and an hour to two hours later, I get the same message from a different number. I can play opt out all day long (as if anyone didn't have anything better to do). I did sign a petition that the automated robo calls were to be made illegal.
I received a call to where I am eligible to receive a loan for $15,000. As if I am going to take a loan on the phone from an unknown entity. Really folks? If I am going to get a loan, it will be in my hometown from a bank that I know or a legitimate company.
This next one is a little scary. He had my phone number and where I went to see my doctor. The call was for medical compensation from this medical group. I told him to put me on his Do Not Call List as I know there is nothing for me to collect. He shouted in the phone, "IT'S FOR MEDICAL COMPENSATION!!!" If I am that curious, I will personally call the medical group back and contact the Billing Department. How did this man know where I went to see my doctor? How did he get my phone number? I don't have this information listed anywhere on the Internet - it's personal. I only share this with my transportation company when I schedule a ride.
I know I am not the only one who is receiving scam calls on their cell phones. I have had conversations with a few people about the calls they receive and the recordings don't allow you to opt out and when they have called the number back, they receive the "busy" signal.
Be aware of these scams and there are most likely more out there that I haven't listed. If you have received scam or questionable calls, please list them in the comment section of this blog post so others can be made more aware.
