Four and a half hours later, I walk my dog again and a neighbor and I heard the bird. He saw it on the ground under the Oleander bushes crying. Poor baby. Mama had deserted it or it fell out of a nest which we couldn't find.
I called two veterinarian offices, one bird rescue (who only does domestic birds) and was referred to a wild bird sanctuary. I called a friend who took me across town to drop off the baby bird which the neighbor put in a shoe box I had.
It is now in its new forever home. The woman who runs the sanctuary said she has some birds who play foster parents who will take care of the baby pigeon.
