I had purchased my domain name last year on GoDaddy. It wasn't until this year that I could afford to purchase web hosting.
I contacted a company for web hosting and picked a plan that was affordable to me. I called their sales department and I was walked through the steps on how to forward my domain name to their site. GoDaddy only charges a little over five dollars a year to host your domain name. This other company charges $19.95 a year. I prefer the money in my pocket.
The person in the sales department talked to me as if he was bored and I was stupid. I asked him if he could walk me through the steps and he did intermittently "sighing". I asked an intelligent question after making the selection about the name servers - do I need to do anything else or will my domain name automatically be forwarded from GoDaddy? He told me I did NOT have to do anything else and it would take 48 hours for my domain site to go live. This was on a Thursday so by Saturday my domain site would be active. NOT!
On Wednesday, November 8th, I called "the company" to find out why my domain wasn't active. I pressed the option for technical support and this is what I heard from a recording, "We recognize, by your phone number on file, that you didn't pay for the plan with phone support. You will need to submit an email with your request". Yes, I'm serious about this.
So, I submit my request and, in the past, I had heard from this company within one to two hours. By Thursday, NOTHING!
Thursday morning, I called GoDaddy to see if I had done anything wrong. Their tech support was fabulous to me! Within five minutes, the problem was resolved. "The company's" software interface didn't update the name servers. I was told by the rep at GoDaddy that this step could only be done MANUALLY and that I would have to call the company's tech support to get this taken care of. I told him my experience with the phone recording. He couldn't believe this company worked like this. I couldn't either since they "used to be" a top notch company and that is why I went back to them.
The GoDaddy rep asked me what I paid for my domain and I told him what the cost was for ONE year. He told me with paying only ELEVEN dollars more, I could have my domain paid for - for THREE years. He even sent me an email with the link.
I called "the company" and told them my story. I was told by this sales rep that he was one of the few good reps at the company. I told him the rude treatment I had received the previous week and he asked for a name. I was happy to give it. I asked him how do I get my free site back and the rep "kindly and professionally" told me. I asked for a refund and one was processed. I received a confirmation email.
It wasn't until AFTER I asked for a refund did I receive an email from tech support apologizing for the terrible delay and how could they help me. I had already sent the information in on the support ticket. I sent an email and told them because of their lack of professionalism, being nice and delay, I went to another company to host my domain.
My free site will remain up while I build my new site. After that time, I will have a forwarding link on the main page so you can find me there.
