2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper." Psalm 1:1-3 KJV
Blessed are we who delights in the ways of God and who contemplates on what they have read! Contemplate is to profoundly think - to go beyond just reading the words and actually deeply thinking about what was read to see where these words can be applied to their life. This is what we are to do when we read and hear God's Word instead of just lightly reading or hearing and thinking we've done our duty.
When we just do our "duty to God", we aren't growing in the ways of the Lord. Instead, we have God on a To Do List and once this is checked off, we go on our merry way. God is NOT a To Do List. He is the Almighty - He is our Creator and deserves more than a passing thought.
When we actually take the time necessary to walk in the way of the Lord, stay away from people who enjoy sinning or fighting, we will grow in ways we could never imagine. A tree planted by the rivers of water gets proper and constant nourishment both physically and spiritually. We will grow and produce good fruit in time. With our constant feeding, we won't wither - become bitter or mean. We won't die a spiritual death and wither like the chaff which is blown away in the wind. Whatever we do shall prosper!
Prosper - to succeed in an enterprise or activity; to become strong and flourishing.
All of us have our own definition of how we want to prosper and succeed. Most of the people don't see that paying the bills, having a roof over their head, food on the table, family, extended family, friends, transportation and a home in heaven as success. They don't see their life as flourishing because they want more. They want $1 more and that will never be enough. They mark their success by what others do instead of being grateful and thankful for what they have.
Paul tells us in Philippians 4:11 - "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
Be content in where you are right now. You will grow and move forward. Then be content there while you continue to grow in God's Word. This is how we grow strong and flourish in God.
We need to seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness! This is first and foremost to living a more successful life. Read. Meditate. Apply God's Word. Be the tree planted by the rivers of water - the overflowing waters of life which is Jesus. Live a more successful life for Him!
