Some people think they need to sacrifice their family in order to be in ministry. While God says to not have anything before Him, I don't believe He meant to sacrifice your family in order to have a ministry. While God comes first in our lives, Paul did say it was best for us to remain single as he did with a stipulation in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9.
"Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion."
What else does the Bible say about family and marriage?
1 Corinthians 7:32-35 (NIV) - "I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord. But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. An unmarried woman or virgin is concerned about the Lord’s affairs: Her aim is to be devoted to the Lord in both body and spirit. But a married woman is concerned about the affairs of this world—how she can please her husband. I am saying this for your own good, not to restrict you, but that you may live in a right way in undivided devotion to the Lord."
Genesis 2:18 - "Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
1 Timothy 5:8 ESV - "But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever."
God comes first, your spouse and family second, you come third and then ministry and friends.
God is a God of order. He has set everything in the order in which it needs to be done.
